Donald Trump has declared that Iran’s supreme leader “should be very worried”. The news emerges as officials from Iran and the US are allegedly set to convene in Istanbul later this week for discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.
During a chat with American network NBC today, Trump was quizzed about whether Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei ought to be concerned as regional tensions escalate. He responded: “I would say he should be very worried, yeah. He should be”.
This revelation follows yesterday’s destruction of a Shahed-139 attack drone as it neared the USS Abraham Lincoln strike force positioned 500 miles from Iran in the Arabian Sea.
Intelligence sources indicate US President Donald Trump has requested military assault blueprints spanning from swift and decisive operations beneath the war threshold to catastrophic missile barrages, reports the Mirror.
The United States deployed a carrier strike group to the area, which Trump characterised as “an armada,” featuring the colossal carrier with its squadrons of F-35C and Super Hornet aircraft alongside an escort of six destroyers.
In recent days, America’s requirements have shifted from minimising protester risks and demanding no executions to instructing the regime it must relinquish its nuclear and weapons programme. The U.S. and Iran had reportedly agreed to convene in Istanbul on Friday, with other Middle Eastern nations participating as observers.
However, the Iranians announced on Tuesday that they wished to relocate the discussions to Oman, insisting on a bilateral format to ensure focus solely on their nuclear programme.
“We thought we had an established forum that had been agreed to in Turkey, that was put together by a number of partners who wanted to attend and be a part of it,” Rubio informed reporters in Washington on Wednesday.
He added that negotiations would need to address a broader range of issues, including Iran’s missile programme, to “lead to something meaningful”.
