Glamour model and I’m a Celebrity star Kelly Brook said despite enjoying a prolific career she spent ‘many years’ wishing that it was ‘not about my looks or body’
Kelly Brook has revealed she hated being known for her looks and wanted to be taken ‘seriously’. The glamour model said despite enjoying a prolific career she spent ‘many years’ wishing that it was ‘not about my looks or body’.
The 46-year-old wanted to be seen as a ‘serious actress or broadcaster’ and wanted people to see more to her than just a model. Brook also said when she burst onto the modelling scene when she was young she felt ‘disjointed’.
Speaking to the Style DNA podcast, she opened up about not feeling truly comfortable with herself until now. She said: “I wanted to be a dancer, I wanted to be an actress, I went to performing arts school.
“In terms of me embracing modelling and coming to terms with it I’d say it’s only been now. For many years I’ve wanted it to not be about my looks or my body.
“I wanted to be a serious actress or a broadcaster. I’ve always kind of fought against it and wanted to do other things. Maybe I could’ve just been a model and been a very successful model but I’ve always wanted to say there’s a bit more to me than that.”
Brook continued: “I was kind of a young geeky teenage girl, so even though I had this body it didn’t represent my soul or who I was. I was still a bit kind of preppy, I’d turn up with glasses on and hair back and not glamorous at all.
“I’d have makeup and lingerie put on but it wasn’t who I was as a person. It took a while for the body and the mind and the soul to connect, it was all a bit disjointed for a while.
“It was like a child’s face and a porn star’s body. It took a while for it all to fit together.”
