A ‘very serious incident’ has been declared at De Montfort University in Leicester.
Police said a number of roads remain closed in the city following an incident on Oxford Street on Tuesday night.
No further details have been released – but officers have launched an ‘immediate investigation’.
De Montfort University said it was offering support to students and staff who witnessed what happened.
A large police cordon is currently in place in the area.
Infirmary Road, Oxford Street, Infirmary Square, Carlton Street, York Road, Lower Brown Street, The Gateway and Gosling Street are all closed.
The closures are located near to Leicester Royal Infirmary, with the hospital and car park affected.
A spokesperson for the university told the BBC: ‘We are aware of a very serious incident on our campus.
