A popular UK theme park has sparked sadness after news broke that it has entered into liquidation.

Official documents have disclosed that Brean Theme Park in Somerset brought in liquidators last week, and has now reached the Resolutions for Winding Up phase, which means the business must stop operating apart from activities necessary for the closure process.

However, the park, which is UK’s biggest free admission attraction, is still advertising reopening on March 14 following its usual winter break.

The attraction runs from Coast Road, Brean Sands, Somerset, and has been welcoming visitors since the 1940s when it started life as a camping and leisure destination.

Ambitions to introduce rides got underway in the 1970s, and the venue has since become a go-to spot for families from nearby regions including Gloucestershire and Bristol.

Nicholas Stafford from Hazlewoods LLP has been brought in as the liquidator, reports the Express.

The role involves properly distributing the firm’s assets amongst shareholders and those owed money.

An official announcement, published in The Gazette yesterday (February 4), confirms that liquidators were brought in on January 28.

The attraction hasn’t issued any public statement regarding this development.

No information about either a permanent or temporary shutdown has been made public.

The notice reads: “NOTICE IS GIVEN that the following written resolutions of the above-named Company were passed on 28 January 2026 as a Special resolution and Ordinary resolution respectively:

1. “That the Company be wound up voluntarily”

2. “That Nicholas Stafford (IP No: 27270) of Hazlewoods LLP, Staverton Court, Staverton, Cheltenham, GL51 0UX be appointed Liquidator of the Company.”

Brean Theme Park, typically open from March to October each year, concluded last year’s tourist season with a spectacular fireworks display.

The theme park is renowned for its thrilling rides that consistently delight visitors. Standout attractions include the Bulldog Coaster, Terror Castle, NASA Rockets and Sky Diver.

Although entry to the park is free, individual rides require varying amounts of credits, which can be bought either inside the park or in advance.

The park’s website currently lists its 2026 opening date as Saturday, 14 March.

Some views online reacted to the sad news hoping a solution would be found as the attraction would be “greatly missed.”

One said: “Lots of good memories with my children and grandchildren, it will be missed.”

Another added: “This is sad news. We had many happy summers there as kids and then I took my own child when he was younger. Happy memories.”

Recent reviews attest to the park’s popularity among visitors. A TripAdvisor review from late 2025 reads: “Lots of rides to choose from. There are restrictions on younger children riding certain rides but still lots for them to do. Petrol go-carts are good fun but not included in your day ticket. Certainly worth a visit.”

Another review from last summer states: “This was a last-minute day out with our teen kids. It’s not the biggest theme park, but it’s loads of fun. We had a wander around, as the entrance is free, to see if we wanted to buy wrist bands, and it was unanimous with the kids to go.

“The rides were fun, line ups were short, and the staff were friendly and helpful. “.

Brean Theme Park have been contacted for comment.
