Aussie lady, 22, with $100,000 in financial savings is slammed by ‘jealous’ trolls who say she’s TOO frugal

A 22-year-old girl who shares tips on how to make frugal changes after saving over $100,000 has been targeted by ‘jealous’ trolls.

Ray, who admits she saves a lot thanks to living at home, posts TikTok videos listing the items she refuses to buy in order to save money.

‘Books. I’m so lucky that one of my hobbies is reading, because in this day and age, you don’t need to be buying books, use your local library,’ she advised.

‘It’s amazing. It’s free books. It’s there for you to use. Go to your library.’

She also refuses to use food delivery services, telling her followers that while they’re convenient, ‘I’m not paying $30 to have one $7 Domino’s Pizza’.

The 22-year-old also saves money by skipping hair, nail, eyelash and eyebrow appointments and cutting her own hair and not colouring it.

‘Whenever I’m going out, I just do my own nails,’ she said.

But instead of praising her savvy tips, some trolls left vile comments about Ray’s appearance on the video – until they were quickly rebuffed by other viewers.

‘Skin care should be on your list,’ a second quipped, to which Ray replied; ‘any recommendations?’

‘Yeah but some of us care about our appearance…’ a third commented to which the creator shot back: ‘Me too!’

‘I think you should spend a little on skincare and even a little extra on hair products. There are many that are affordable and will do the job. Frugal doesn’t have to mean you look like you don’t care about your appearance,’ a third wrote.

‘I never said I don’t care about my appearance,’ Ray replied.

‘$100k saved and you literally deprive yourself it’s not worth it,’ a fourth said.

However, others defended Ray and praised her for being financially independent.

‘That’s not very nice, is it?’ one person replied to a troll, while another asked them: ‘Do you have $100k?’

‘It’s giving jealous,’ a third added.

‘People being rude is wild, she has different priorities and that’s okay. Congratulations to her she’s happy and doing great,’ a fourth wrote.

Ray has also revealed how she saves money on electronics, explaining that she refuses to upgrade her iPhone until it is ‘falling apart’ or buy multiple phone cases.

‘The last phone I had, the screen was literally popping off and going black,’ she said.

‘I do not need to be buying a new phone just to have the new iPhone that comes out every year.’

Ray said she invests in a protective, good quality phone case that helps her avoid damaging her phone – and the costs that come with it – in the long run.

The 22-year-old also refuses to buy reusable water bottles.

‘The amount I’ve accumulated over my entire life, I just have enough in an overflowing cupboard of water bottles. And I know you do too,’ she said.
