Liverpool might have hoped they’d outrun the storm – but as a cloud appeared over Anfield the Reds shrunk into the turf.
The Reds looked to be on for another win against Pep Guardiola’s side at Anfield – but a whirlwind final ten minutes compounded more misery into a shocking season from the defending champions. And City, thanks to an Erling Haaland penalty, still have Arsenal in sight.
However, for Arne Slot, it’s another game that presents more questions than answers as the Reds dropped more points as the game descended into a crazy mess.
Liverpool were good value for half an hour, which peaked when Gianluigi Donnarumma decided he needed just two-men in his wall with Dominik Szoboszlai stood over a free-kick, well over thirty yards out.
Szoboszlai, who has form from a dead ball, might even himself have questioned he was too far from the goal to have pop. However, the Hungarian, who played the whole game out of position, spun the ball away from the static City goalkeeper.
Anfield was rocking once more and it looked like they were turning a corner after a poor season, claiming a major scalp over City. However, he went from hero to zero as he played Bernardo Silva onside for the equaliser.
And it would only get worse for Szoboszlai and Liverpool when Erling Haaland found the back of the net from the spot.
