A heartbroken mum has shared the tragic story of her fiancé who is believed to have taken life during a family holiday in Spain, just hours before the first anniversary of their baby daughter’s death.

Daniella Robb’s partner, Robert Davidson, tragically died after falling from a sixth-floor hotel balcony in Torremolinos, Costa del Sol, late last Tuesday (February 3).

Robert passed away just hours before the one-year anniversary of the death of their daughter Hollie, who sadly died at seven weeks old from sudden infant death syndrome.

Daniella, 27, was asleep with her two children, aged eight and nine, when Robert returned to their hotel room at the Sandos Griego resort shortly before midnight.

He kissed the children and told them he loved them, before reportedly tragically taking his own life. The 37-year-old father was declared dead at the scene, reports the Daily Record.

The family had travelled to the resort on February 1 to avoid being at home on February 4, the date they tragically lost their baby daughter.

Daniella said: “A year ago on February 4, we lost our little girl Hollie who had died from SIDS.

“The memories of that date, of the paramedics rushing around our house, were just too raw so we decided to book a holiday.

“That day we had gone shopping in Malaga and when we returned to the hotel the kids had been playing at the night entertainment. Robert had been at the bar and speaking to other British holidaymakers.

“It was getting late so I told him I was taking the kids to bed first.

“He came into the room and gave both kids a kiss and told them he loved them. He then went out on the balcony for a cigarette.

“It was just hours before Hollie’s anniversary. I woke up when the kids screamed, ‘Mum, Robert has fallen off the balcony.'”.

“We all jumped up and ran out of the room into the hallway. Everything that happened next was a blur.”

In shock, Daniella said hotel staff, police and nurses offered her an injection to try to calm her down.

Daniella said Robert, who also had two daughters, aged nine and 13, from a previous relationship, suffered a fall on Christmas Eve which had left him with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain which also left him confused. She is unsure if the confusion he suffered had contributed towards how Robert was feeling before his death.

She said: “Robert was really struggling. I knew he was but I didn’t know how badly.

“We had been to the doctors and I had asked him to go back. He didn’t like to talk about his feelings much but I’d tried to get him to open up, his close friends had as well. But he wanted to be the one that was there for me, he didn’t want to put any more on me. He had been devastated at losing Hollie, we all had. We still were.

“He was due to start a new job in telecommunications on Monday with his friend. He hadn’t been able to work since Hollie’s death and I really think this job would have helped him.”

Daniella, who got engaged to Robert in 2021, is due to fly home today (February 8) with her family.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to aid in the repatriation of Robert’s body, and it has already amassed £9000.

Daniella expressed her grief, saying: “We all loved him so much. He was hilarious, he could walk into a room and light it up. He was the most loving person. We are utterly heartbroken, we can’t even put into words.

“The children are the priority. We just need to get home now and begin the process of bringing Robert back. I just want him home.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office confirmed: “We are providing support to the family of a British man who died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
