The devastated family and colleagues of a much loved police officer killed in a crash have paid tribute. Alice Mayo, who had dedicated over six years of service to Cheshire Police, lost her life in the accident on the A534 Spark Lane in Arclid on Saturday (February 7).

The 29-year-old was off-duty when the fatal incident occurred. Alice was behind the wheel of a blue Fiat 500 which collided with a white Land Rover Defender, according to a Cheshire Police spokesperson.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, reports the Manchester Evening News. Alice worked as a police constable with Macclesfield’s BEAT team and was hailed by the force’s chief as a ‘dedicated’ and ‘courageous’ colleague.

Her loved ones remembered her as being “beautiful inside and out”, saying her passing will create “a huge hole” in their lives.

In a heartfelt tribute, Alice’s family stated: “Alice meant so much to so many. She was a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a niece, a dog-mum to Ned the Cocker Spaniel, and a friend to so many.

“She was beautiful inside and out. She will leave a huge hole in our lives, but also a legacy of laughter, fun, and sunshine. She achieved so much in her short life, and leaves behind a heartbroken, but incredibly proud, family.

“Alice was at a time of her life where she was really happy. She overcame so much, but she never gave up. She was taken far too soon.”

Cheshire Constabulary’s Chief Constable, Mark Roberts, expressed his condolences, stating: “This was a tragic incident, and my thoughts are with Alice’s family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time. I want to pay tribute to our professional and courageous colleague.

“She was a dedicated professional who will be missed by all those who knew her. We are supporting Alice’s family and colleagues at this extremely difficult time.

“I would ask that people do not speculate about the collision and the circumstances around it. Please let our experienced and professional investigators carry out their work.”

Dan Price, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, shared his sorrow, saying: “I am deeply saddened to hear about the death of Alice at the weekend. My thoughts are with those who knew and loved her and of course with the policing family that she was part of.”
