Sturla Holm Laegreid admitted to cheating on his girlfriend on live TV

A Winter Olympic star broke down in tears as he admitted cheating on his girlfriend on live TV after winning a bronze medal.

Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Laegreid won bronze in the men’s 20km Individual on Tuesday, adding another Olympic medal to his collection after he won gold with Norway’s men’s relay team at the 2022 games.

But Laegreid didn’t take to the mic to revel in his success and thank those around him who have helped him over the years. Instead, he issued a grovelling statement to his girlfriend of six months, who he shockingly admitted to being unfaithful to.

An emotional Laegreid told Norwegian outlet NRK: “There’s someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today.

“Six months ago, I met the love of my life and the most beautiful and kindest person in the world. And three months ago I made my biggest mistake and cheated on her. I had a gold medal in my life. I only have eyes for her.

“I don’t know what I want to achieve by saying this, but sports have been a little different in recent days. So I wish I could share it with her.

“You have to admit when you do something you can’t stand for, and hurt someone you love so much.”

Laegreid, who turns 29 next week, couldn’t hold back his tears during his confession before regaining his composure and adding: “You never know how many chances you get, and I don’t think I’ll get another chance at true love as I had with her. But I’m willing to do anything.

“I am willing to drop a nuclear bomb on NRK and commit social suicide and be hated by everyone. Because I am already hated by her, and I hope that maybe it can make her realise how much I love her.”

The Norwegian was asked about the identity of his mystery girlfriend, but he refused to mention her name, instead replying: “She’s probably still processing last week’s message, but I hope there’s light at the end of the tunnel for both of us. And that she can still love me.”

He had decided to go public about his infidelity the night before his event, telling the TV station: “Last night I had a kind of revelation that I should drop this bomb…Then we’ll see what happens. I have nothing to lose.”

Laegreid stepped onto the podium with ease after he finished over 40 seconds ahead of fourth-placed Olli Hiidensalo of Finland.
