Husband and spouse discovered lifeless in murder-suicide at their lovely house in leafy New York City suburb

A man fatally shot his partner inside their New York home before turning the gun on himself, police said. 

Paul Trefimovich, 68, killed Valerie Kopetic, 63, inside their Port Jefferson home, Suffolk County Police Department confirmed. 

Officers had arrived at the $800,000 home after being called to carry out a welfare check when Kopetic failed to appear for work on Monday. 

When they arrived, officers found the couple dead from gunshot wounds inside the address. 

Following an investigation they determined that Trefimovich murdered Kopetic before shooting himself. 

It remains unclear at this time what led up to the fatal shooting, with police adding that they did not have any further information.

According to records Kopetic, in addition the Port Jefferson home, also owns a property in Florida. 

She was employed as the Executive Director of the Long Island Adolescent and Family Services Inc, a social services agency. 

The company confirmed her employment while adding that she worked out of their offices in Stony Brook, a short drive from her home.  She had worked for over two decades. 

In a statement, Suffolk County Police department said: ‘Sixth Precinct officers responded to 135 Oakwood Road at 11:-7 am for a check the welfare call after Valerie Kopetic failed to appear at her job this morning. 

‘When officers arrived, they discovered two residents of the home dead from gunshot wounds. 

‘An investigation by Homicide Squad detectives determined Paul Trefimovich, 68, killed his domestic partner, Kopetic, 63, and then shot himself to death.’
