Live pigs fall out of truck in motorway tunnel as drivers swerve to keep away from them

Dashcam footage from a car in Taiwan spotlights an unusual challenge for the driver, saving the bacon of a trio of lawless porkers on the run.

The pigs came flying from a speeding truck in a motorway tunnel, forcing motorists to swerve to dodge them in the narrow space.

Luckily, the incident ended without loss of life, either human or pig, although the farmer who sent the animals on their daring adventure ended up with a fine for getting a pal to move his livestock, rather than using someone with the proper certification and expertise to avoid a highway hamageddon.

The three pigs made their break for freedom in Guanyinshan Tunnel on Expressway 64 near the Taiwanese capital of Taipei.

Dashcam footage shows the driver behind their truck switching lanes to miss the animals as they touched down on the tarmac one by one.

Police then used this video to track down the owner of the pigs, a farmer named Lin. Despite having 20 years of experience, he ended up with a fine for breaking the rules for moving livestock.

Lin had to pay a total of £210 (TWD 9,000), according to Need to Know.

On top of a £140 fine for failing to install a GPS device, which is mandatory in Taiwan for transporting pigs and pork to prevent the spread of disease, he had to shell out £70 for violating vehicle safety rules.

He reportedly got an unlicensed pal to transport the animals to save on fees last November.

Officials from the Taipei City Animal Protection Office found the fallen pigs on the motorway and took them to their facility for health checks.

Other than cuts and bruises, the animals were found to be unharmed and were returned to Lin.

Their escapade follows a death-dodging getaway by a Devonshire porker on the way to a slaughterhouse. Sarah Allen, 29, was transporting the pig from her smallholding to an abattoir just 11 miles away.

But the quick-thinking grunter leapfrogged a couple of his pals to get away.

“It was just a mad day,” she said. “We got in to join the queue for the abattoir and my husband said: ‘Sarah there’s only two.’”

After tracking the beast down, they decided to keep him a pet and name him Milton, after the village of Milton Damerel where a farmer eventually found him.

“But now he’s safe and well,” said Sarah. “He’s become quite a famous pig over the last 24 hours. This piggy is destined to stay with us.”
