A man scaled an electricity pylon carrying high-voltage cables in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, which left thousands of homes without power as emergency services swarmed
Shocked witnesses looked on in horror as a man climbed up a power pylon carrying high-voltage cables. The man, believed to be distraught over relationship troubles, scaled the pylon in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, on Sunday morning.
He scaled the structure near Sainsbury’s in the town centre, with stunned bystanders watching as he climbed nearly to the top. Emergency responders including paramedics, West Yorkshire Police and fire crews rushed to the scene.
Blackouts were reported throughout Brighouse and in Lightcliffe, Hove Edge and neighbouring areas Thousands of households were plunged into darkness, according to Yorkshire Live.
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed they were alerted by West Yorkshire Police at 9.23am this morning, with the service deploying three Hazard Area Response Teams and two area commanders.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Emergency services were called to the site of an electricity pylon close to Brighouse Marina at 9:15am today following reports of concern for the safety of a man who had reportedly climbed up the structure.
“The man climbed down the pylon shortly after 11:30am and was arrested. He is not thought to have suffered any injuries during the incident.”
