JoJo Siwa wanted Team GB’s bobsleigh team to send her proof that her boyfriend, Chris Hughes, was still in one piece after he spent a day training with them.

As a BBC Sport presenter, Hughes joined the British team for a day ahead of the Winter Olympics, which included a run down the track in Norway. Before being tasked with applying the brakes and bringing the sled to a stop, Hughes FaceTimed Siwa to calm her nerves and reassure her he was safe.

During their call, she asked the team, who were gearing up to watch Hughes take the ride of his life, for a favour. Hughes explained: “I think I’ll quickly FaceTime the missus, just to let her know I’m safe and sound and in good hands.”

Siwa gushed over the Team GB kit Hughes had donned, saying she loved it. Reassuring Siwa over the phone, Hughes said: “I’m in good hands, I’ve got all the lads with me, looking out for me.”

She exclaimed: “You’re actually doing this!?” Hughes continued to calm her concerns, replying: “Yeah, I’m doing it right now. I’m a bit nervous, but talking to you is helping me relax.”

Siwa then turned her attention to the team behind him, asking: “You guys are going to keep him safe, right?” They all, including Hughes, reassured her they would.

She then asked: “Lads, will you do me a favour? As soon as you’re done, can someone please text me some proof he’s still alive?” Hughes agreed, saying: “I’ll pass my phone to one of the lads and they’ll give you a shout.”

Siwa then told him: “You can even give them my number, I don’t care, I just want to make sure you’re OK.” However, he wasn’t prepared to go that far, responding: “I don’t trust them,” before they both erupted into laughter.

Hughes echoed amidst the giggles: “I don’t trust them, can’t be doing that, I can’t be doing that. Babe, I’ve spent 24 hours with these lads, I can’t be doing that. Trust nobody.”

He then wrapped up the chat, saying: “Right, I’ve gotta go, love you, darling,” and blew her a kiss before uttering: “Bye bye.”

Siwa reiterated: “Text me a proof of life,” before telling Hughes, “I love you”, and bidding him, “goodbye.” Hughes repeated: “Proof of life,” and said his final goodbye before the call ended. He then turned to the crew behind him and exclaimed: “Proof of life? I’ve never text someone a proof of life!”.

Staying true to his word, Hughes rang Swia afterwards. “Did you do it?” she queried, and he replied: “Babe, I survived. If I’m being honest, I’d struggle to do that again; that was hard.”
