Scott McTominay’s agent has met with Napoli to discuss a contract extension, despite reports claiming Manchester United are leading the race to bring hi, back to the Premier League
Scott McTominay’s representatives have held discussions with Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna regarding potential terms for a contract extension at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. McTominay, 29, brought his 22-year stint with Manchester United to a close when he sealed a £25.7million switch to Naples in August 2024.
Throughout his debut campaign at Napoli, McTominay played a pivotal role in the Partenopei securing their second Serie A title in three seasons, whilst also scooping the division’s MVP accolade. The Scotland international netted an impressive 12 goals and contributed six assists during Napoli’s title-winning campaign.
His excellent form has carried over into the current season, with McTominay hitting the target 10 times and registering four assists across Serie A and the Champions League. The former United midfielder has been sidelined for the previous two fixtures though, including Sunday’s 2-2 stalemate with Roma, after suffering an injury during the victory at Genoa on Saturday, February 7.
However, McTominay’s enforced absence hasn’t prevented rumours circulating regarding his long-term prospects at Napoli. According to Corriere dello Sport, preparations are underway for McTominay, whose current deal runs until 2028, to receive an enhanced contract at Napoli following an outstanding first 18 months in Italy.

Antonio Conte’s outfit are keen to prolong that arrangement until the summer of 2030. Reports suggest McTominay’s agent has travelled to Naples for negotiations, and that discussions with Manna concerning the extension terms have taken place.
Whilst there’s been no specific discussion regarding McTominay’s wages, it’s expected he would be offered enhanced personal terms after proving himself as one of Serie A’s standout performers since his transfer to Napoli.
Speculation over a new deal for McTominay comes just days after reports suggested United are ‘leading the pack’ in terms of a potential move for the midfielder. Tuttomercatoweb reported on Friday that McTominay is contemplating a return to the Premier League in 2026, with United at the head of the line.

It was suggested that he and his girlfriend Cam Reading are mulling over a move back home, with a switch to the Premier League believed to be on the cards ‘sooner rather than later’.
Napoli’s global business development officer Leonardo Giammarioli discussed the interest in McTominay last week, telling talkSPORT that the club are attempting to ward off admiring looks from other teams.
“Yeah, of course I’m worried,” he admitted. “But ultimately, especially Scott, who’s a very nice guy, we’re happy if he reaches the next level in a couple of years – maybe not now, maybe not next year, but he deserves it.
“Look at Stuttgart, they wanted to keep Nick Woltemade, but when such an offer comes in [£65million from Newcastle United], there’s not much you can do, when the player wants to go and money is important. It’s difficult for Italian teams; the Italian league continues to lose revenue.”
