Another Brit dies within the Alps as avalanche hits group of off-piste skiers close to French resort

Another Brit has died in the Alps after an avalanche swept through a group of five off-piste skiers and their guide.

The slide struck the Côte Fine couloir in La Grave on Tuesday morning.

Two skiers were found in cardiorespiratory arrest and later pronounced dead, according to Marion Lozac’Hmeur, Public Prosecutor of Gap.

One man, born in 1987, was Polish. The other, born in 1989, was a British national originally from Poland who lived in Switzerland.

The French guide was injured and taken to Grenoble University Hospital. Two skiers, from Germany and Australia, escaped unhurt.

An investigation has been opened and handed to the Briançon High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon.

The exact circumstances remain unclear pending interviews with survivors.

Rescuers reached the scene by land after poor weather grounded helicopters.

Three mountain gendarmes, an emergency doctor, two local guides and six trackers with a search dog were deployed.
