Alexis Mac Allister’s dad has addressed speculation linking the Argentine midfielder with a potential move to Liverpool’s bitter rivals, Manchester United.

The World Cup winner has emerged as a shock transfer target for United, amid suggestions his Anfield future remains uncertain. United are exploring midfield reinforcements for the summer, with Mac Allister mentioned as a possible candidate. The former Brighton star has more than two years remaining on his Anfield contract.

But he has found himself rotating in and out of Arne Slot’s first choice team this term. As a result, departure speculation has begun to intensify, and when pressed by WinWin regarding the rumours, Carlos Mac Allister responded.

He said: “Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment. We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is. We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.”

It seems the Mac Allister representatives are playing their cards close to their chest, which is entirely understandable. The midfielder initially moved to Liverpool in 2023 for an upfront £35million, with suggestions the deal could eventually reach £55m.

If boss Slot doesn’t see Mac Allister as integral to his future plans and fails to offer fresh terms, this summer will probably represent Liverpool’s best opportunity to cash in on the 27-year-old. Should the Reds delay any further, they risk Mac Allister running down his deal and departing as a free agent in summer 2028.

Mac Allister caused a stir last month when he seemed to take aim at boss Slot and the club over the massive personnel shake-up during the 2025 summer transfer window.

He told Sky Sports: “It hurts. Many things have changed from last season and it is not ideal, but that is the situation we are in and we have to face it and keep working to get better.”

When questioned about why Liverpool have lacked consistency this campaign, he added: “Many things changed, as I said. New players came in to replace those who left, we changed too many things, but I prefer to keep it to myself.”
