Brit flies to Turkey for the day to do his grocery procuring – because it’s cheaper than within the UK

We’re all feeling the pinch from the cost-of-living crisis in the UK and many Brits are trying different methods to save money and cut costs.

From coupon collecting to purchasing reduced food items, there are plenty of ways to budget on the food shop.

But one Brit found a totally different technique proved to be successful too – flying abroad to do a grocery shop.

Jordon Cox, known as The Coupon King, went to Turkey to stock up his cupboards.

In a YouTube video, he revealed he paid just £33.01 for a return flight – booked on the same day.

Armed with just a backpack for his carry-on luggage, Jordon jetted off to Antalya to spend a few hours shopping before he headed back home.

When he arrived in Turkey, he paid 72p for an airport tram to the town centre and went straight to a supermarket called A 101.

Inside, he found a share bag of Doritos for 59,50₺ (£1) which he says is typically priced at around £1.75 in the UK.

In the end, Jordon decided to do his shop at Bim and found Haribo marshmallows 28.50₺ (49p), a bag of Coco Pops for 130₺ (£2.24) and a multipack of Twix for 79₺ (£1.36).

Oral B toothpaste came to just 99₺ (£1.71) and a multipack of pocket tissues cost 23,50₺ (40p).

‘I’ve got two big bags full of food, toiletries, loads of different stuff,’ Jordon exclaimed.

He even managed to spend some time on the beach before catching his return flight home.

Jordon managed to squeeze most of his shopping in his carry-on backpack except for a few items.

In the end, the Brit managed to make some huge savings. Oral B for example, cost £1.71 in Turkey but is usually found for around £5.13 in the UK.

His multipack of Coco Pops totalled to 1.4kg in total and cost £2.24, which is much cheaper than just 365g for £3.30 in Tesco without a Clubcard.

Bags of Haribos cost Jordon just 49p in Turkey but are typically priced at £1.25 at Tesco.

Jordon calculated the same shop would cost £89.38 in Tesco in the UK, or £86.18 with a Clubcard.

‘That seems an awfully high number, and it is, it wasn’t even that much,’ he exclaimed.

But in Turkey, the savvy shopper paid just £19.23 in total, as well as £15.11 for a bottle of Vodka in the airport.

Totalling the flights, train transfer and shopping, Jordon paid £68.79 and saved £20.59 overall, or £17.39 with Clubcard prices.
