Manchester United will not look to keep Jadon Sancho beyond this season. Sancho, 25, was loaned to Aston Villa last summer, where he has similarly failed to rediscover his finest form.

Along with Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford, Sancho was placed in the notorious ‘Bomb Squad’ during Ruben Amorim’s tenure. Whilst United offloaded Garnacho to Chelsea, Rashford and Sancho were sent on loan to Barcelona and Villa respectively.

However, with Rashford thriving in La Liga numerous United officials are said to be lamenting Barcelona’s option to secure him permanently for approximately £26million. Their view on Sancho couldn’t be more different – they’re eager to remove him and his substantial wages from the Old Trafford payroll.

Sancho was believed to be collecting roughly £200,000 per week following his £73million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. He has since been loaned back to the German club and to Chelsea, with the latter paying a £5m penalty not to complete his signing after wage negotiations collapsed.

United do possess the option to activate a 12-month extension on Sancho’s contract. Nevertheless, having found it difficult to sell him in recent seasons, the club are now content to allow him to depart as a free agent this summer.

Regarding Rashford, numerous figures at the club are said to believe he’s performing at the level of a £50million player. However, for the next permanent manager, Barcelona can secure him for a reduced £26million fee, as agreed in last summer’s loan deal.

Rashford is also believed to be keen on making his switch to the Camp Nou permanent. He has recorded ten goals and 13 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, performances which have earned him call-ups to Thomas Tuchel’s recent England squads.

Meanwhile, Sancho will be hoping he can revive his career in similar fashion to Rashford. He is still young, but the forward has only showed glimpses of the player who was considered one of the best young players in world football.

There were many slick moments while on loan at Dortmund and Chelsea, but neither team were prepared to fork out for a transfer fee and his substantial wages to persuade United to sell him. With his contract expiring at the end of June, securing a move will be more straightforward for him.

Villa boss Unai Emery recently hinted he could be convinced to make Sancho’s temporary spell at Villa Park permanent. The Spaniard said: “Not yet, but he is a fantastic player.

“Hopefully he can help us by increasing his qualities in our structure like he is doing. He will need another contract, and maybe it could be here. If he plays his best football, we will want him. But also other teams could be involved in the interest for him.
