Need to know: Farage’s failed Tory “shadow cabinet” unveils hardline policies on workers’ rights and immigration

  • Nigel Farage has unveiled a controversial “shadow cabinet” packed with failed Tories pushing hardline policies on immigration, climate change and equalities.
  • Robert Jenrick was named shadow chancellor despite costing taxpayers £40 million, while Suella Braverman became education spokesman and vowed to scrap the equalities department on “day one” of a Reform government. Richard Tice was appointed business spokesman just days after suggesting Reform could cut the minimum wage.
  • Reform wants to abandon workers’ rights upgrades and scrap the Employment Rights Bill. Tice said: “You’ve got to scrap the whole Employment Rights Bill, lock stock and barrel.”
  • Braverman announced Reform would repeal the 2010 Equalities Act, which protects citizens from discrimination. The TUC warned this would “legalise discrimination against a worker if they are a woman, disabled, black, pregnant or gay.”
  • Farage U-turned on scrapping the two-child benefit limit, saying it would only apply to families where both parents were British and working full-time. Labour said this would help less than 1% of affected children.
  • The party wants to abandon net-zero climate targets and make massive public spending cuts of £274 billion. Reform also plans to scrap indefinite leave to remain, potentially deporting hundreds of thousands of legal migrants.
  • Reform’s “Britannia Card” would let foreign billionaires pay £250,000 to avoid UK taxes on overseas earnings and inheritance tax.
