Reform UK plans to push children into poverty with two-child profit restrict U-turn

Reform will commit to plunging kids into poverty by restoring the two-child benefit limit in full.

Labour is lifting the cruel Tory cap from April, which prevents parents from claiming Child Tax Credit or Universal Credit for more than two children. Around 1.6million children in larger families were impacted by the cap, according to figures from July.

But Robert Jenrick, Reform’s new Treasury spokesman, today vowed to bring back the cruel cap as part of a benefits slashing spree. He was due to say: “We want to help working families have more children. But right now, we just cannot afford to do so with welfare. So it has to go.

“And, as Reform’s Shadow Chancellor, I’m ending it. A Reform Government will restore the cap in full. We are the party of alarm clock Britain — a party for workers and not welfare.”

It comes after Nigel Farage appointed a bunch of failed Tories, including Mr Jenrick and ex-Home Secretary Suella Braverman, to his top team.
