NEED TO KNOW: Andrew ‘processed like a common criminal’ during 11-hour police custody stint

  • Andrew was arrested by cops who swooped on his Wood Farm home at 8am on Thursday, his 66th birthday. Thames Valley Police searched his home and his former house in Windsor, where they arrived with a search warrant.
  • He was read his rights while being flanked by his two private bodyguards as cops combed through his drawers and cupboards. He was then whisked away to a police station, roughly 55 minutes away.
  • Andrew is believed to have sat alone in the back of an unmarked police with a Norfolk Police Range Rover ahead and another carrying his bodyguards behind. He then had his mug shot and finger prints taking and his DNA swabbed before being quizzed by detectives at the police station.
  • He was reportedly spared the indignity of being put in handcuffs but would have been examined to establish if he was mentally and physically fit to be detained and interviewed when he arrived at the cop shop.
  • A custody sergeant would then have been responsible for making sure procedures had been followed correctly by the arresting officers and Andrew had a DNA saliva swab taken along with his prints and a photograph like every other criminal suspect.
  • After being released under investigation, he was photographed leaving the police station in the back of a car. Looking stunned and bleary-eyed, Andrew’s photo was seen around the world.
