The Andrew formerly known as Prince has been a thorn in the side of the Royal Family for some time. While he was the golden boy war hero of the royals in the 1980s, those glory days are but a distant memory.

Now he’s the man who could bring down Britain’s monarchy after more than 1,000 years. Polls show that “The Firm” are the least popular they have been since official popularity figures were taken.

Andrew’s ongoing saga, which seems to go from bad to worse with each revelation, is tarnishing everyone in the Windsor clan. People are rightly wondering why he has been protected all these years, and why the late Queen helped him pay a £12million settlement to the late Virginia Giuffre.

His arrest on suspicion of misconduct in a public office has only made questions about their relevance in 2026 more poignant. At best they are a celebration of the traditions of this country, great supporters of charities and a boost to our tourism industry.

But at their worst they are an entitled posh family, paid for and funded by us, who – until now – seemed be able to behave as they liked without consequence.

It is in both the Royal Family’s and the public’s interest that the legal process is now allowed to proceed without interruption. And when it’s over, a proper conversation about the future of the monarchy must take place.
