Donald Trump has sparked controversy once again as he uploaded an AI-powered video playing football with Cristiano Ronaldo. It comes as the president continues to face issues at home surrounding his tariffs.

Trump is gearing up to host this year’s World Cup in football later this summer, alongside Canada and Mexico. Both FIFA and Trump have faced criticism as fans have been forced to push FIFA to release affordable tickets to even attend the games.

But despite the fury that have been felt by football fans and opponents of the president alike, Trump shows no sign of stopping his excitement ahead of the tournament. This was mostly seen as he took to his social media share the AI-generated video in preparation of the .

In the video, uploaded to his Truth Social account, Trump is seen playing football with Portuguese footballing legend Cristiano Ronaldo in the Oval Office. The can be seen doing keep-ups with the ball, dribbling and kicking the ball around the office all before the ball is “kicked” into the screen, breaking the glass.

The post, which was uploaded on Friday afternoon (February 20), garnered a slew of reactions from fans on Truth Social, but some users were less forgiving on other platforms, including X — formerly Twitter. One disgruntled commenter shared their own AI-generated image of Trump in a nappy in a wheelchair.

In the photo, Trump can be seen scowling as he is shirtless with a bib on his chest reading: “Best president. Like no one has ever seen.”

A lot of other users were equally furious with the video, many sharing their own AI-generated content of the president. Meanwhile another user voiced their own frustration, fuming: “And they made fun of Iran’s AI videos…”

It comes as FIFA, the official governing body of the World Cup, has been called on to strip the US of hosting the competition later this summer. This is due to the President’s brutal use of force to deal with immigration in the country, specifically using his Immigration and Customs Enforcement brigade (ICE).

TalkSPORT star Jeff Stelling, who had been the face of Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday for just shy of thirty years, called for FIFA bosses to call off the US’ hosting of the World Cup. When asked on what he thought about ICE’s ongoing actions, Stelling was asked whether the US should be stripped of its hosting rights.

He replied: “Totally agree. They should look at alternatives like the UK tbh.”

Stelling is not alone in his demands after around 23 politicians from across the political spectrum banded together to sign a motion in Parliament calling for the expulsion of the US from international competitions. The group of MPs explained such an event “should not be used to legitimise or normalise violations of international law by powerful states”.
