Emergency crews were raced to a city centre pub following reports that a man had plummeted from a considerable height. Medics raced to the Vernon Arms at approximately midday today (February 22) after receiving word that a man had tumbled roughly 12 feet down a pub cellar hatch.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) vehicles occupied Dale Street for about an hour whilst emergency teams handled the situation before the casualty was transported to hospital.

Three incident response units from NWAS were spotted stationed on Dale Street whilst an ambulance sat directly outside the establishment on the corner of Vernon Street.

Two ambulance cars were also positioned on Vernon Street alongside a paramedic officer’s unmarked vehicle on Dale Street.

The pub continued trading when the Liverpool ECHO reached the location, with the injured party being taken to hospital.

The severity of injuries sustained from the fall remains unclear, with NWAS alerting Merseyside Police to the incident at approximately 12.15pm this afternoon, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident earlier today on Dale Street, Liverpool.

“Crews were alerted at 12.20pm following reports of a rescue from depth, and one fire engine arrived on scene at 12.23pm.

“Upon arrival it was determined that minimal fire service action was required, so an additional fire engine and the search and rescue team were stood down prior to their arrival.

“Firefighters remained on scene to support North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) in assisting a casualty up cellar stairs and into an ambulance, where they were then conveyed to hospital for treatment.”
