A fundraiser has been launched to help support Mia Lily Keogh O’Keeffe’s heartbroken family after the 16-year-old and her dog were hit by a car which failed to stop
Tributes have been paid to a teenage girl who was killed in a hit-and-run crash alongside her dog. Mia Lily Keogh O’Keeffe, 16 was pronounced dead after being struck by a car on the Slane Road in Navan, Co Meath on Saturday night.
The teenager from Navan, was walking her dog, Bowie and was at a pedestrian crossing when a motorist hit her and left the scene at around 8.20pm. A man, aged in his 20s, who was arrested by Gardaí was later released without charge, reports the Irish Mirror.
Now, a fundraiser has been launched to help support Mia’s heartbroken family during this difficult time, with almost €30,000 being raised by the community so far. Mia was one of seven people to lose their lives on Irish roads over the weekend.
A post on GoFundMe page set up by a close relative to the Keogh O’Keefe family read: “On Saturday 21 February, Mia Lily was tragically struck by a car whilst walking her beloved dog, Bowie, on the Slane Road in Navan.
“She suffered catastrophic injuries and later passed away in hospital. Tragically, Bowie also lost his life. Mia Lily was just moments from her home when the collision occurred, and the driver did not stop.
“She was only 16 years old and had her whole life ahead of her. She leaves behind her heartbroken Mam Louise, Dad Stephen, her sister Katelyn, and her brothers Kai, Zack and Cole, along with so many friends and loved ones who are devastated by her loss.”
The organiser expressed gratitude for the “kindness and support” shown in donations, as they appealed to the public to assist in alleviating the financial strain on Mia Lilly’s family.
“At this unimaginably painful time,” they continued. “We are asking for any support you can give, no matter how big or small, to help ease the financial burden on her family as they lay their beautiful girl to rest.
“Every donation and every share means more than words can express. If you’re unable to donate, feel free to share. Mia Lily, we are beyond heartbroken by your loss.
“Thank you for your kindness and support.”
So far, €23,288 of the €30,000 target has been raised in the GoFundMe.
