Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Vladimir Putin has already started World War 3, sparking renewed focus on Britain’s safest locations in the event of nuclear war
Hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost in Ukraine – and now its president has declared that World War 3 has begun. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky made the shocking assertion over the weekend, just before today’s four-year milestone of the conflict (February 24).
The war has triggered soaring global tensions, with concerns about World War 3 erupting fluctuating as the tide of battle has shifted between Russia and Ukraine. Moreover, the circumstances have become more complex following Donald Trump’s return to power, a leader who pledged to resolve the war within 24 hours but has yet to deliver on this promise and shown less backing for Ukraine than his predecessor Joe Biden.
In an interview with the BBC, Zelensky declared: “I believe that Putin has already started it [World War 3]. The question is how much territory he will be able to seize and how to stop him…
“Russia wants to impose on the world a different way of life and change the lives people have chosen for themselves.”
Understandably, there’s mounting speculation about the safest locations across the UK should World War 3 commence, reports the Express. Specialists have extensively shared the optimal destinations, with a consistent pattern being regions distant from major military and naval installations as well as densely populated urban centres.
Historian and author Dr David Swift identified one specific region in the UK that people should steer clear of. He revealed: “You also wouldn’t want to be near the River Clyde as that’s where the UK Trident submarines are based.Ideally you’d want to be somewhere in the countryside, far from major cities. The UK’s energy and internet infrastructure is very vulnerable to sabotage, so it would be good to live somewhere off grid with an independent energy supply.”

The River Clyde spans 106 miles across Scotland, flowing through Glasgow. HMNB Clyde – the base for Britain’s nuclear submarines equipped with Trident missiles – sits on Gare Loch, which connects to the River Clyde’s main waterway.
Dr Swift emphasised that wartime access to broadband would be crucial, stating: “Two-thirds of homes in Northern Ireland, for example, use oil heaters to provide their heat and energy, and so don’t rely on mains gas. You would also want to have access to satellite broadband, which is available mostly in rural areas.”
However, numerous locations could offer sanctuary. Property company EMoov assembled a catalogue of 19 towns and cities throughout the UK that would sit beyond the direct blast zones should multiple major British cities come under attack.
When the catalogue was created, these regions were deemed the most secure locations during a worst-case scenario.
The UK’s most protected areas pinpointed for potential WW3.
