Here comes extra hassle for Starmer: Corbyn to work with Greens on ‘coordinated left flank offensive’ towards Reform and Labour

Jeremy Corbyn is plotting more trouble for his former colleagues in Labour, promising to ‘work constructively’ with the Green Party in a Left-wing alliance.

The former Labour leader was elected Your Party’s de facto new leader on Thursday, and pledged that his hard-Left start-up will join forces with Zack Polanski’s insurgent Green Party in a ‘co-ordinated Left-flank offensive’ against Reform and Labour, which includes plans for tactical voting.

Mr Corbyn had urged voters to back Mr Polanski’s party in Gorton and Denton – where Hannah Spencer left Labour wallowing in third place behind Reform as she won the Green’s first ever by-election.

Mr Corbyn yesterday congratulated Ms Spencer on her ‘stunning victory’.

Posting on X, he said that under his leadership, Your Party will ‘work constructively with the Greens’, saying, ‘there is only one way we can bring about real change – together’.

A source close to Your Party’s leadership committee said there would need to be ‘electoral co-ordination’ to decide where Green Party candidates would stand aside for Your Party candidates in upcoming elections – and vice versa – in order to maximise the chances for any Left-wing politician.

While there’s ‘willingness on both sides’ to co-operate, the source told the Daily Mail that ‘no formal discussions’ have yet taken place with the Greens.

Your Party will ‘work constructively’ with the Green Party in a left-wing alliance to take on Labour and Reform, Jeremy Corbyn has warned

Jeremy Corbyn on Friday offered his congratulations to Ms Spencer on her ‘stunning victory’ in the Gorton and Denton by-election

After beating former Labour colleague Zarah Sultana to become Your Party’s parliamentary leader, Mr Corbyn said he was ‘delighted’ members voted for ‘a socialist party that takes the fight to Starmer and Farage’.

He added: ‘We have a precious opportunity to unite our movement around a bold vision for this country, one that creates a more caring, equal and peaceful world for all. I look forward to working with all members to make this vision a reality.’

A source later said: ‘Jeremy believes in working together with others on the Left, in a co-ordinated Left-flank offensive.’
