LIVE: Keir Starmer to present main Iran disaster replace as evacuation plans drawn up

Keir Starmer will deliver a statement to MPs from 3:30pm as officials draw up plans to evacuate more than 100,000 Brits from the Middle East.

The PM last night announced he had agreed to let the US use British military bases to target missile storage depots and launchers being used to attack Iran’s neighbours.

But Donald Trump hit out at Mr Starmer for not immediately falling behind US-Israeli strikes on Iran. The US President said he was “very disappointed” the UK had initially blocked the US from using British military bases to target Iran. He went on to say the Prime Minister took far too long to change his mind.

Meanwhile, officials are looking at evacuation routes by land, sea or air, with one mooted escape plan to bring people by land to Saudi Arabia to board flights. Ms Cooper said: “The latest figure I have from this morning is we have 102,000 people (who) have responded to our proposal to ask people to register their presence so we know where they are, particularly in these Gulf countries that have been targeted so we know where they are and so that we can get them rapid information.”

Officials are looking at evacuation routes by land, sea or air, with one mooted escape plan to bring people by land to Saudi Arabia to board flights.

oreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the UK was working on “every possible option” to help people trapped in Gulf countries as Iran retaliates to US and Israeli strikes.

She said this morning: “The latest figure I have from this morning is we have 102,000 people (who) have responded to our proposal to ask people to register their presence so we know where they are, particularly in these Gulf countries that have been targeted so we know where they are and so that we can get them rapid information.

“In many of these countries the airspace is currently closed because of the Iranian attacks. This is deeply stressful obviously for people because we’re talking about a lot of people who are holidaymakers, who were transit passengers just passing through or people on business visits to the region and who we want to make sure can get safely home.”
