Donald Trump has claimed that the US is “annihilating” Iran’s military – and bragged: “We’re beating the crap out of them.”

The US President said the American blitz could continue for five weeks, but claimed the operation was “ahead of schedule” with a “big wave” yet to start. He said: “I think it’s going very well. It’s very powerful. We’ve got the greatest military in the world and we’re using it.”

The American leader said the US intended to destroy Iran’s missile capabilities, its navy, end its nuclear ambitions and prevent it arming terrorists. “We’re destroying Iran’s missile capabilities – you see that happening on an hourly basis – and their capacity to produce brand-new ones,” Trump said.

“We’re annihilating their navy. We’ve knocked out already 10 ships. We have the strongest and most powerful, by far, military in the world, and we will easily prevail.”

He added: “I don’t want to see it go on too long. I always thought it would be four weeks. And we’re a little ahead of schedule. Whatever the time is, it’s OK. Whatever it takes. Right from the beginning we projected four to five weeks but we have capability to go far longer than that. We’ll do it”.

Trump went on: “They said, ‘Oh well, the president wants to do it really quickly. After that, he’ll get bored.’ I don’t get bored. There’s nothing boring about this.” He claimed the strikes would ensure Iran “can never obtain a nuclear weapon” nor “continue to arm, fund and direct terrorist armies outside of their borders”.

Speaking of the four US troops killed Trump said: “In their memory we continue this mission with ferocious, unyielding resolve to crush the threat this terrorist regime poses to the American people.”

He also claimed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer took “far too long” to let the US use British bases to blitz Iran. He said he was “very disappointed” the PM delayed before giving the green light. Sir Keir hit back, saying it was “my duty to judge what is in Britain’s national interest. That is what I’ve done, and I stand by it.”

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch accused the PM of “dither and delay”. She said: “You don’t need international law to say whose side you’re on.”
