A darts legend once became so concerned about a fellow pro and his takeaway that he rang the police to report a kidnapping because he ‘took too long to get a kebab’
Adrian Lewis once called the police to report a kidnapping after becoming concerned about Darren Webster taking too long to get a kebab.
The two-time back-to-back world champion was left greatly concerned about his darting pals’ absence during a tournament trip to Holland. The former PDC Tour Card holder and World Championship quarter-finalist Webster, 57, was completely unaware of Lewis’ worry after going out to grab food.
‘Demolition Man’ headed out late at night but was gone for over an hour due to a busy wait at the kebab, but Lewis feared that Webster had been taken by Dutch locals and called the police.

Recalling the story, Webster told Modus: “One night we had finished the darts and were on our way back to the hotel. I said to Adrian, do you feel like something to eat? He said yeah, okay.
“So, I said I will go and get you a kebab. I’d gone to the kebab shop and there must have been 30 people there.
“I was waiting there for about an hour and 10 minutes. When I came to the room he went, ‘Where have you been?’ I went to get you a kebab. He went, ‘Well I have phoned the police and told them you were kidnapped.’
“This was in Holland and I’m like, ‘You what?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I have called the police and they have been here. I told them you were kidnapped and they asked me how old you were.’

“He said, ‘I’m 36 but he’s only this big and I am really worried about him’. I then had to phone the police and say I wasn’t kidnapped. Adrian said, ‘I was really worried, I thought you were kidnapped by the Dutch people.’”
Lewis stepped away from darts in 2023 to focus on family life after his wife Sarah was diagnosed with an incurable kidney disease, while his son has autism and ADHD.
Fans have been calling for ‘Jackpot’ to return to the big stage but he opted against entering Q-School at the start of the year.
However, the 41-year-old hasn’t closed the door to one day returning to the PDC ProTour. He said: “I am leaning towards going back to Q-School, you know. We’ll just have to wait and see. I don’t know yet.
“I’ve got to make sure I’m mentally right, and that’s what it comes down to more than anything else. It’s alright hitting 100-plus averages on the exhibition circuit but can you do it on a regular basis in Q-School?
“I do definitely think I’ll be back, even if it’s not next year it will probably be the year after.”
