Mark Webster has given a health update after taking a break from darts

Former darts star-turned-pundit Mark Webster has given a health update after he recently announced he would be taking some time away from the game.

The 42-year-old is a popular figure on Sky Sports’ darts coverage, with him a regular face during the World Championships and the Premier League. Webster was also announced as part of a fresh ITV line-up earlier this year.

However, the Welshman has had to step away from his presenting duties after he revealed he is battling a condition which has not been disclosed. Webster broke the news last week and he has received plenty of support and well wishes from his colleagues and fans alike.

For the first time since he confirmed he was temporarily stepping back, Webster appeared in the latest episode of Sky Sports’ Love The Darts podcast with Michael Bridge and Colin Lloyd.

Taking time away from discussing the action ahead of week five in the Premier League at Cardiff, a venue Webster would have been excited to attend in his home event, talk turned to Webster’s absence.

The two-time World Championship semi-finalist explained: “Something cropped up and I’m having a bit of treatment and slowly it seems to be working.

“Hopefully in another month it will be reassessed and I’ll be hoping to get back. I’ve missed far too much already and I want to get back.

“At least I get to chat to you guys so it’s nice to sort of be involved.”

Webster continued to thank fans for their best wishes, adding: “I’ve had some nice messages over social media.

“It’s been really nice and as much as I like watching the darts, it’s not the same as being involved so I’m quite eager to get back.”

Webster lost his PDC Tour card in 2019 and has returned to Q-School in a bid to win a spot on the tour back, but ‘The Spider’ has been unable to do so. The 2008 BDO world champion has since featured as one of the most respected pundits on Sky’s coverage.
