Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has claimed there is more drama with actors in real life off camera than on the cobbles.

The actress found fame as Weatherfield’s Rosie Webster and said she became aware of the antics of older co-stars when she became an adult.

Helen, 35, revealed: “As I was becoming one of the more grown-up members of the cast, I no longer needed a chaperone and could, at long last, join everyone else in the green room.

“The births of my children aside, the first time I crossed the hallowed threshold remains one of the greatest days of my life.

“They could honestly do a reality TV show about what goes on in the Coronation Street green room: who’s sleeping with who, who’s fallen out with who, who’s pissed off with the producers and threatening to quit.

“To say it lived up to my expectations and then some would be an understatement! I bloody loved it in there.”

Helen was just nine when she joined the soap in 2000 and became a fan favourite after 12 years on the trot.

She continued: “Because I was one of the ‘littluns’, I had to stay in the kids’ room between scenes and I always longed to have access to the green room where all the adults went to chill.

“The older I got, the more I hated being babied – I was dying to hang out with people like Tina O’Brien, Samia Ghadie and Nikki Sanderson who I thought were the coolest girls ever.

“This was when lads’ mags like FHM and Nuts were still flying off the shelves and the soap girls would get to do all these sexy photo shoots which I was in absolute awe of.

“I wanted to be exactly like them, to be their friend and part of their gang but, of course, I was 10 years younger and just an annoying little kid to them.”

Helen had a brief comeback between 2017 and 2018 and in her new memoir Head & Heart she admitted she would love to go back.

She added: “I’m not sure if a return to Corrie is on the cards at all, but I’d be open to it somewhere along the line.
