Manchester United’s quest for a new left winger in the summer transfer window could lead them to another Premier League star, with Bournemouth’s Marcus Tavernier reportedly on their shortlist.

United are believed to be eager to sign a new wide player in the summer, having reverted to a style of play that utilises wingers. Under Ruben Amorim, players like Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford were allowed to depart, leaving United lacking in that position.

A change in formation under Michael Carrick has made the position crucial, and the club is expected to be in the market for a left-sided attacker.

It’s been reported by The Manchester Evening News that that RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is being considered, but the Daily Mail say that Tavernier is also on their radar. The 26-year-old, along with Morgan Gibbs-White, is said to be on United’s summer wishlist.

Since aiding Bournemouth’s promotion to the Premier League, Tavernier has become a key figure at the Vitality Stadium. This season, he has netted six goals and provided five assists, drawing attention from Aston Villa.

According to the report, Bournemouth might be willing to sell the player in the summer to raise funds, with Tavernier expected to command a fee upwards of £40million.

Tavernier isn’t the first Bournemouth player to catch United’s attention. Antoine Semenyo was coveted at Old Trafford last summer, but they decided against pursuing a deal and instead recruited Bryan Mbeumo.

In January, the Ghana international secured a switch to Manchester City for approximately £64million.

Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, the forward has netted seven goals in 12 appearances.

Alongside a fresh winger, United are making a central midfielder their priority for the summer.

At least two players could arrive to bolster the position, with Casemiro departing the club and Manuel Ugarte confronting further doubt over his future.

Nottingham Forest and England star Elliot Anderson is one of the names anticipated to top their wishlist. Gibbs-White, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba are also understood to be under review.
