Ryan Reynolds will be hoping soaring Wrexham can topple Premier League heavyweights Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round.

Reynolds assumed control of Wrexham in 2021 alongside Rob McElhenney and they’ve subsequently secured three consecutive promotions under manager Phil Parkinson. The Premier League is now within the Welsh club’s vision and tonight one of the top flight’s big guns visits the Racecourse stadium.

They’re tracking towards the play-offs in the second tier, though the domestic cup tournaments provide an opportunity to test themselves against formidable opposition – plus the small matter of silverware. Here, we take a detailed look at the Wrexham co-owner, including his current wealth and a dig at a massive corporation nickname.

What is Ryan Reynolds’ net worth?

Ryan Reynolds‘ shrewd business ventures have been drawing considerable attention in recent years, reports the Mirror. The Canadian actor has shown a flair for astute investments and is now estimated to possess a net worth of between $400million (£300m) and $448m (£336m).

A considerable chunk of that wealth supposedly comes from his stake in Mint Mobile, which T-Mobile snapped up in 2023, with his portion reportedly worth more than £200m. He also held a 20% interest in Aviation Gin before drinks behemoth Diageo bought it for around £450m.

Reynolds and McElhenney have since offloaded part of Wrexham to Apollo Sports Capital (ASC). This marks another major breakthrough, with the club now valued at a staggering £350m.

Earlier this year, the duo successfully recovered £15m in loans from the club, and it’s transactions like these that showcase their business savvy.

Reynolds’ primary role in the entertainment world mustn’t be forgotten. Projections indicate his annual earnings from acting work total roughly £100m, comprising fresh ventures and residuals from past performances.

The star was pivotal in thrusting Wrexham into the limelight, primarily via their FX programme Welcome to Wrexham. This constitutes yet another revenue stream where he and co-owner McElhenney will secure a larger portion, leading to a bigger cut of any generated profits.

Who did Ryan Reynolds split up with?

Reynolds is blissfully wed to actress Blake Lively, and they share three daughters and one son. But before Lively came into his world, he was previously hitched to another Hollywood luminary – Scarlett Johansson.

The romance kicked off shortly after his separation from former fiancée Alanis Morissette and progressed rapidly. Reynolds and Johansson revealed their engagement just over a year after going public with their relationship, tying the knot in September 2008.

Nevertheless, the marriage lasted only briefly, crumbling after just two years when the couple announced their split. By July 2011, the divorce had been completed, and merely months later, Reynolds confirmed his romance with Lively.

In May 2011, Reynolds admitted he was still “in pain” following the divorce and has largely kept quiet about the relationship. Johansson, meanwhile, described Reynolds as “a good guy” when his name arose during a 2023 chat on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast.

How did Ryan Reynolds respond to ‘Disney FC’ dig?

Reynolds offered his own reply to opponents labelling Wrexham ‘Disney FC’ following James McClean’s departure in January. The Irishman moved back to Derry City during the transfer window earlier this year and expressed gratitude to the Welsh club for their backing.

He said: “It’s genuinely been the most incredible and enjoyable couple of years I have had. A huge thank you to @vancityreynolds and @robmac, who are two incredible people by the way, for giving me the opportunity to be part of the magic that is Wrexham – or to people outside of Wrexham, ‘Disney FC.'” This brief reference highlights the moniker that numerous rival supporters employ for the Red Dragons. The club stars on Disney+ in a hit documentary series titled Welcome to Wrexham, which displays their triumphant promotion campaigns to audiences worldwide.

This label surfaced as a frequent jibe aimed at the team, and Reynolds addressed it head-on. He remarked: “Usually, we start each episode with something funny or heartwarming, but this week I think we should address what people have been saying about us.

“You know, the Disney thing. We get it, there are similarities. We like parades, we like fans, we like costumed characters and merch. I could go on.”

Co-owner McElhenney interrupted: “We invite you all to come experience that magic with us through the tale of Disney FC. The rest of you jaded p***** can go f*** your f****** selves.”

McElhenney continued: “Two things. One, to all the opposing clubs that are upset we didn’t choose them and went with Wrexham instead, I am sorry. And two, what was two again?”.

Reynolds responded: “One was sorry we thought Wrexham was more special than the other clubs, and two was,” before the duo concluded the segment by making rude gestures at the camera.

The Wrexham proprietors’ response to the label demonstrates their indifference towards detractors and underscores their concentration on more pressing concerns – including their FA Cup encounter against Chelsea.
