Ugly scenes erupted at the Ibrox stadium today (March 8) as hundreds of Celtic and Rangers fans started fighting each other on the pitch.

The bedlam was sparked by Celtic striker Tomas Cvancara, whose winning goal led to Celtic fans storming the pitch while their rivals tried to stop them.

Objects were hurled and fireworks set off by both sets of fans, resulting in unsightly scenes during the Scottish Cup tie. Hundreds of supporters invaded the pitch, with one Rangers fan being escorted away by police after trying to approach Celtic players and fans.

Stewards and police stepped in to separate the two factions of supporters, but players and staff members found themselves embroiled in the turmoil.

Premier Sports commentator Rory Hamilton reported that a member of Celtic’s staff was assaulted by an individual.

Speaking live on TV, he said: “One of the Celtic coaching staff has been attacked by an individual. It is an ugly, ugly end to what has been a superb game of football. There is absolutely no need. This is lunacy.”
