A woman’s body was discovered in a Phoenix, Arizona canal on Saturday, March 7, but the Pima County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed it is unrelated to the missing Nancy Guthrie investigation
A body has been found in a river by police as the search for TV presenter’s mum Nancy Guthrie continues.
A woman was found dead in a canal in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, March 7. Phoenix police confirmed they are looking into the death after being called to the area of 27th Place and Grand Canal Trail at around 7.40 am on Saturday.
According to a statement from the police, “Details on the call indicated that an adult female was on the nearby canal bank and was unresponsive. When officers arrived, they located the woman, who was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene.”
This follows revelations from a former FBI agent about the secret codeword Savannah used in her message to the kidnappers.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has now confirmed the body is not linked to the Nancy Guthrie investigation. They told TMZ they have “not been notified of any connection reference that case to the Nancy Guthrie case.”
Police have not released additional information about the woman or revealed her identity. The body was discovered over 100 miles from Nancy’s home in Tucson, Arizona.
The 84 year old was last seen at her home on January 31 after having dinner with her daughter, Annie Guthrie. Nancy’s family reported her missing on February 1 when she failed to attend a planned virtual church service.
Officials have yet to comment on the reported discovery. Nevertheless, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has provided several updates and stressed police are “closer” to establishing what happened to Nancy.
Speaking to NBC News, he said, “We got a lot of intel, a lot of leads, but now it’s time to just go to work.”
He did not reveal any details about what the leads involve.
The sheriff also addressed a video of a vehicle spotted near Nancy’s residence on the morning she vanished. “What I would tell you is this, we’re aware of it and we’re looking into it, just like any other piece of evidence” he stated.
Investigators have not yet managed to identify the vehicle.
