The Trump Organization has filed a series of new trademark applications that make clear that President Donald Trump intends to put himself front and center of this summer’s celebrations honoring America’s 250th birthday.
According to NOTUS, Trump’s business – which is being run by his sons Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump while he serves as commander-in-chief – submitted a series of designs to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office late last week with a view to their exclusive use during the anniversary events.
One of the logos filed by DTTM Operations LLC simply reads “Trump 250” and is intended for use on merchandise like bumper stickers, tote bags, commemorative cups, T-shirts, and golf balls, the filing states.
Another design features five fighter jets with converging contrails and Trump’s name spelled out at the base.
The Independent has contacted the Trump Organization for more information on the trademark filings and how the proposed logos might be used commercially.
In a separate filing last week, the Kennedy Center’s Board of Trustees also submitted a trademark application for a new logo that reads “The Trump Kennedy Center” below a simple sketch of the venue.
The submission suggests the design might appear on everything from decorative magnets, ear buds and binoculars to electric fans, torches, wristwatches, posters, bags, mugs, clothing, and Christmas tree ornaments.
Trump has a long history of slapping his name on commercial ventures, from luxury apartment complexes, golf resorts and hotels to branded-beef steaks, golden hi-top sneakers, Bibles and electric guitars.
Since returning to the White House last year, he has only accelerated the process, of which the switch from the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to the “Donald J Trump and the John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts” is just one example.
He has also put his name on the U.S. Institute of Peace (a congressionally-funded think-tank), a new fleet of Navy ships – “Trump-class” battleships – and a range of savings and investment accounts for children.
Banners have also been seen hanging from a number of federal buildings in Washington, D.C., bearing the president’s name, which inspired his long-time critic, California Sen. Adam Schiff, to issue a scathing report entitled: “Propaganda: How the Trump Administration is Breaking the Law and Wasting Taxpayer Dollars with Giant Banners of Donald Trump.”
In addition to his much-talked-about UFC bout on the South Lawn of the White House, this summer’s celebrations will also reportedly include an INDYCAR race on the National Mall and a $100 million “Arc de Trump” constructed.
An “unprecedented four-day athletic event” held called the “Patriot Games” is also said to be in the works, in which each of the 50 states will nominate one male and one female high school-age competitor to take part.
The president has also announced the creation of a public-private partnership called Freedom 250 to help execute his vision for the celebrations.
“Working with states, companies, and organizations across the country, we will renew the patriotism, pride, and pioneering spirit of America and lay the groundwork for the next 250 years of independence and freedom,” he said.
“This will be a time like you’ve never had in your lives, America 250.”
