Our man Josh Whorms visited Benidorm to soak up Cheltenham Festival alongside some sun, sand and shots. And while he was there, he discovered a new skillset…betting
Benidorm is a brilliant place to be if you love your bets, cheap booze and bar-filled fun away from Cheltenham itself.
This is THE alternative to the racecourse itself for punters seeking a winner in the sunshine. Having spent several days lapping up the atmosphere in the Spanish resort alongside hordes of race fans, I can confidently say holidaymakers are having the time of their lives.
It’s been so much fun to see what the Cheltenham telly experience is like at a poolside bar while sipping beers in my swimming trunks and sunglasses.
I ventured down to Benidorm to get a completely unique horse racing experience – and it didn’t disappoint. From the start til the end, the trip was unforgettable. A perfect holiday for punters looking to enjoy Cheltenham from abroad.
Even before my flight departed, you could feel the atmosphere and hype building for the festival as chants of “Cheltenham here we come” could be heard brewing in the Gatwick airport terminal.
Despite being more than 1,300 miles away from the action, I was blown away by how intense the atmosphere was as passionate racing fanatics erupted into thunderous roars as their favoured horses bolted down the racetrack.
All the holidaymakers I had the pleasure of speaking to were friendly, funny, and up for a fun party, as many told me that they had made ‘Cheltenham in Benidorm’ an annual tradition and a staple in their racing calendar.
Everyone I met in the holiday locale was here for the same thing: a love for horse racing, a great time and cheap drinks, transforming the city into a haven for horse fans.
After a few lucky days of betting with Freebets, I had snagged myself a handsome bit of pocket money too, and my success at the races has had me pondering if I have what it takes to become a full-time tipster.
The trip blessed me with memories, as Benidorm’s notorious wild nightlife makes for a holiday that doesn’t lose its intensity once the races are over.
The countless welcoming pubs, clubs and food spots make for a one of-a-kind party atmosphere you can only find in Benidorm. Cheltenham in Benidorm, without question, has been my favourite horse racing experience ever.
And the Spanish city will see me again in future for another action packed race week.
