Authorities say the women used a drone disguised as a crow to smuggle drugs

Two women have been arrested after allegedly attempting to fly drugs into a prison using plastic birds.

The pair were nabbed after authorities say they used a drone disguised as a crow to smuggle drugs, tobacco and mobile phones over the walls.

Melanie Jean Worthington, 38, and Kassy Marie Cole, 41, now face numerous charges following the alleged crimes in Grant Parish, Louisiana, officials confirmed.

Following their arrests, the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office released a photo of a synthetic crow, complete with realistic features like a dark beak and eyes. Covered in black tape, the decoy bird was shown carrying what looked like a white bundle attached to its back.

Worthington, from Joshua, Texas, was charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis with intent to distribute.

Cole, from Hurst, Texas, was charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution and possession of methamphetamine and synthetic cannabis with intent to distribute.

Authorities revealed Cole also had an outstanding warrant at the time of her arrest.

The women also confessed to receiving $40,000 (£30,000) to smuggle the items, according to the authorities.

Last year, police arrested two men for using a meth cannon to fire $112,000 (£83,000) worth of tobacco and $89,500 (£67,000) worth of methamphetamine over the walls of another Louisiana prison.

WCTV reports that the recent arrests of Worthington and Cole bring the total number of individuals caught attempting to sneak prohibited items into the Grant Parish federal facility to ten this year.
