Iran-US battle newest: Supreme chief assertion threatens new assaults on US bases and warns Iran will ‘avenge martyrs’

The 60-year-old man from London, who has not been named, was on holiday in the Gulf city when he was taken into custody, according to Detained in Dubai.

The man deleted the video immediately when asked and meant no harm, yet he still faces charges, Detained CEO Radha Stirling said.

Israel has threatened to take Lebanese land and to expand its military operations, after launching the heaviest night of bombing on Beirut since the conflict with Hezbollah began 10 days ago.

Aircraft roared above Lebanon’s capital and fiery explosions lit up the sky overnight, with Israel saying in it struck nearly a dozen locations in the southern suburbs in half an hour alone.

At least eight people were killed in a separate salvo along the capital’s iconic waterfront, where displaced families forced to flee their homes were sleeping rough.

In a statement read by a state broadcaster, and reportedly by Mojtaba Khamenei, the leader called for unity among Iranians from “all walks of life” and threatened revenge for war casualties, relating his own experience after his father was killed on the first day of the war.

“This is something that I share with the people who have lost their ones because I lost my father, I lost my wife. My sister lost her child as well as the husband who has been martyred,” he said.

“But what it makes it easier for us to endure all these plights is to trust the grace of God and to know that patience is going to resolve it. I assure everyone that we will not ignoring the fact that we are going to revenge our martyrs.”

The United Nations Refugee Agency has said that up to 3.2 million people have been displaced inside Iran since the outbreak of war on 28 February.

Humanitarian groups also warn that up to one million people have been displaced in Lebanon.

In a post on Truth Social, ahead of the Iranian leader’s address, Donald Trump says that the US benefits when oil prices go up, amid backlash over the impact of the war on energy costs.

“The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money. BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is stoping an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons, and destroying the Middle East and, indeed, the World,” he writes [sic].

“I won’t ever let that happen! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP”

In his first address, Khamenei also says all US bases in the region should immediately be closed – and threatens to attack those bases.

Iranian supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei is making his first public statements since his appointment on Sunday.

In a statement read on state TV, he calls for unity among people.

He says the closure of the Strait of Hormuz should be continued as a tool to pressure the enemy.

Wednesday’s attack left thousands of workers unable to access the company’s systems, according to WOOD-TV.

Handala, the Iranian-linked hacker group, took responsibility for the attack in a social media post. It called the attack a retaliation “for the brutal attack on the Minab school and in response to ongoing cyber assaults against the infrastructure of the Axis of Resistance.”

The 34-second clip, which has been branded both “cringeworthy” and “absolutely shameful,” was uploaded to X on March 12. The clip begins with an ESPN segment featuring bowling legend Pete Weber’s viral “Who do you think you are?” moment from 2012.
