At least six French soldiers have been injured in a drone attack targeting a base in the Iraq after a UK military facility also came under fire in the country.
The strike on the joint Peshmerga-French base in the Makhmour area of the country involved two drones, Erbil Governor Omed Koshnaw said, and no Peshmerga personnel were at the site at the time.
‘This is all the movement of the terrorist militias in Iraq and we reiterate that the Iraqi government are not taking it seriously,’ Xoshnaw said.
‘If these outlaws are part of the Iraqi government, then they are responsible. If they are not, then their security apparatus has a duty of reining these groups in.’
It is not the first attack on Iraq in the ongoing war, with dramatic photos last night showing smoke billowing above the city of Erbil in the early hours of the morning.
The explosion was reported near the US Consulate and not far from the Erbil International Airport area, where America also has a military base.
Strikes have been hitting Iraq in recent days as the war spreads across the Middle East.
Though not directly involved in strikes, France has made attempts to ease the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
