Treat your mum with unique gifts

This Sunday (March 15) we celebrate an important day for millions of parent out there. Mother’s Day is celebrated to honour mothers, grandmothers, and maternal figures for their love, sacrifices, and influence on family and society.

Finding the right gift or ways to mark this date can be challenging. So if you’re looking for a Mother’s Day gift that’ll really hit the high notes, keep reading.

From drag brunches that’ll have mum singing for her supper, to spicy cocktails and sweet treats delivered straight to her door, this year’s most unique gift ideas are guaranteed to put a smile on her face.

Whether she’s a music lover, a culture vulture, or just wants to put her feet up while someone and relax while you take on all the potential house chores, we’ve rounded up the quirkiest, most memorable ways to show mum she’s simply the best.

Music to her ears

For mums who love to move to their own beat, the new Powerbeats Fit earbuds from Beats by Dre (POWERBEATS FIT RRP £199.95) are the ultimate gift. Powerbeats Fit is the latest evolution of its popular Beats Fit Pro earbuds and a new addition to the bestselling Powerbeats family.

Powerbeats Fit delivers enhanced durability and improved in-ear comfort with a redesigned wingtip that is just as stable as Powerbeats Pro 2’s earhook—all housed in a more compact charging case with an IPX4 rating – perfect for those who love fitness.

Unique exhibition

For mums who love a day out with a difference, the UK has a wide selection of ongoing exhibitions. I personally brought my mum to Queer Britain, the UK’s national LGBTQIA+ museum in London.

Delving into the Queer Britain archive – donated by people from across the UK – the exhibition we visited showcases magazines, flyers, posters, zines and ephemera to tell the story of how LGBTQIA+ people came together, told stories and organised through radical and alternative print cultures in a pre digital age.

My mum was particularly touched by the collection of UK AIDS Quilts, which were made between 1989 and 1996 to commemorate friends, lovers and family members who passed away from an AIDS related illness during this time. Visit the museum here: 2 Granary Square, Kings Cross, London N1C 4BH.

Admission: “Pay What You Can”. Opening hours: 12–6pm Wednesday to Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday, Queerbritain.org.uk.

Drag queen serenading mum

Nothing gets funnier than a 6ft glamazon serenading your mum with dirty lyrics. I strongly recommend treating your parent with a drag brunch.

I brought mine to the Angel of Bow in London to experience “the best Bottomless Drag Brunch in London”. Bringing scandal and outrage to the Angel of Bow in London’s East End, this was an unforgettable experience, with plenty of laughter.

The Angel of Bow is far from the average public house. The eclectic, colourful mix of furnishings and one-off pieces have been hand-picked and lovingly restored to create a one-of-a-kind pub experience.

And alongside this gorgeous aesthetic is a huge selection of craft beers, distinctive spirits and delicious food. The Angel’s Bottomless Drag Brunch offers you two hours of unlimited prosecco and a fabulous brunch dish, plus the best drag queens around.

You can join the Angel team from 1pm to 3pm every Saturdays. But be warned, the event is so popular it is already booked many weeks ahead.

The brunch menu includesTurkish Eggs, an American Breakfast, a hearty Breakfast Burger, Avocado & Eggs, a Steak Sandwich, and traditional Fish & Chips made with fresh produce from Billingsgate Market. There’s also a Vegan American Breakfast.

Tickets for the Bottomless Brunch and Show are priced at £39.95, with entry to the Drag Show only available for just £5. Booking is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.

Do an ‘eco’ cleaning while mum relaxes

Ecover has launched its new Power Washing Up Liquid, which is tough on grease and gentle on skin, showing how its cleaning products have evolved to make rubber washing-up gloves extinct at the sink. In the UK, over a third of adults agree that washing dishes by hand negatively impacts skin health, despite hand dishwashing being a regular chore, with 45% of adults who wash dishes by hand doing so more than once per day.

With consumers actively seeking cleaning products that don’t harm their hands without sacrificing performance, Ecover Power Washing Up Liquid addresses this need with its effective, dermatologically tested cleaning formula. Long-lasting suds and a smart, streamlined approach ensure Power Washing Up liquid gets the job done with less product and scrubbing every time, helping reduce water, time, and product waste.

Available in a premium bergamot and sage fragrance, the Power Washing up Liquid, Ecover’s most powerful formula, comes in two convenient sizes 950ml (RRP: £4.95) and 450ml (RRP: £2.95) bottles, which can wash up to 7,400 and 3,600 dishes respectively, as well as a 5L refill (RRP: £18.00). All formats are Leaping Bunny-certified and made in Ecover’s certified Platinum Zero Waste factory using 100% recycled plastic bottles (minus caps) and 100% recyclable packaging, reducing the environmental impact from production to disposal.

Ecover’s Power Washing Up Liquid joins Power dishwasher tablets and toilet cleaner in its most efficacious tier. The product expands Ecover’s comprehensive lineup of innovative cleaning products, including laundry detergents, fabric softeners, and stain removers – all made with consciously chosen ingredients.

The product is available now to purchase from Amazon, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s with plans to roll out distribution across additional retailers in the coming months. For more information on how The Gloves Are Off campaign and Ecover Power, visitEcover’s website or follow along on Instagram.
