Igor Tudor appeared to confuse Allan Dixon for Arne Slot before Tottenham Hotspur’s away clash at Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. The Croatian entered the match under increasing scrutiny, having failed to secure victory in any of his four games since assuming interim managerial duties last month.

Currently, Spurs occupy 16th position in the Premier League table with 29 points alongside 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and 18th-placed West Ham – surviving relegation only on goal difference.

With merely eight fixtures left in the 2025/26 campaign, the likelihood of the 47 year old steering the club clear of their maiden relegation to the Championship appears to be diminishing daily.

Nevertheless, it was Tudor’s behaviour prior to kick-off against Liverpool that captured the attention of supporters globally, as he seemed to have approached Dixon from behind believing he was about to engage in a customary pre-match handshake with Slot.

Following his emergence from the tunnel, Tudor tapped Dixon – who serves as Spurs’ player liaison officer – before placing his arm around him and briefly exchanging words.

One sharp-eyed social media user was swift to post footage of the encounter online, commenting: “Igor Tudor confused Alan Dixon for Arne Slot,” accompanied by a series of laughing emojis.

The responses beneath the post were also packed with sardonic remarks regarding Tudor’s difficulties at Spurs, as well as questioning Dixon’s presence on the touchline.

One individual commented: “Just like he confuses himself he’s a manager,” whilst another chimed in: “Alan Dixon works for Spurs lol. He’s literally a colleague,” reports the Mirror.

A third queried: “Why is Alan Dixon standing on the sideline like he is some sort of coach though?” whilst a fourth quipped: “He was complimenting him on buying the same coat I think?”.

This comes after Tudor made waves with his pre-match press conference earlier this week, telling his players they can either “cry or fight” in their relegation struggle. He stated: “Not an easy situation, not an easy moment. [It’s a] big challenge to change things.”

“Like everything in life, you can choose how to see the situation. You can cry or you can fight. You can be the victim or you can change something. This is the message I communicated to the players.

“The bottle is either half empty or half full. Here there is nothing full, there are a lot of empty things. But difficult moments don’t last forever.

“It will pass. I believe the players who take this as an opportunity, who stand up with the courage to change these things, will become better people and players afterwards.”
