Jeremy Clarkson desires to grow to be new Iran chief as they ‘want somebody universally liked’

TV star Jeremy Clarkson reckons he should become Iran’s new Ayatollah. The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host believes he would make the best new ruler of the rogue Middle Eastern state.

He said he is ‘universally loved’ and – until Iran shut down the internet – used to get more fan mail from there than anywhere else. The telly star thinks he would be a ‘plausible alternative’ to the nuke-craving clerics currently at war with the US and Israel.

He said he would wipe out religious extremism and bring peace to the Middle East for the first time since the 7th Century. The former Top Gear presenter said he would take Iran back to the ‘olden years’ when locals wore ‘miniskirts’ and drove ‘Hillman Hunters’.

And the world would be safer because he had no idea ‘how to make a nuclear bomb’.

Jeremy, 65, said the war US President Donald Trump was currently waging was ‘pointless’ because ‘endless bombing’ would never trigger regime change unless the West had a friendly new leader ready to step in.

He said:“Worse than the pointlessness is the sense that no-one has an actual goal in mind. Of course in Iran there are a very great many people who would dearly love to go back to the olden days.

“They want to wear a miniskirt and drive a Hillman Hunter. And they loathe the clerics. But what these people need, what the whole of Iran needs, and soon, is a plausible alternative.

“Someone who can walk out of the rubble and become a new maypole around whom they can all dance. They need someone who’s universally loved over there and the only person I can think of is me.

“Before the internet was shut down I used to get loads of fan mail from Iran. More than from any other country, in fact. Plus, I’ve just checked my birth certificate and it seems I’m a Methodist, which is about as neutral as you can get.

“I also don’t know how to make a nuclear bomb. So I could be just what’s needed.”

Trump and Israel launched a twin attack on Iran on February 28. Supreme ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the first salvo – along with 48 other leaders. His son Motjaba – who western military chiefs believe is as bad as his dad – could also be dead.

US-Israeli troops have continued to pound military targets for the past fortnight but Iran is still hitting back blasting oil, gas and strategic economic targets across the Middle East.

But Clarkson may have to wait until he takes over after Iran’s foreign minister claimed the new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is alive. Abbas Araghchi said: “The Leader of the Revolution is in complete health and is fully managing the situation.”
