Millions of males are giving their willies names like Long Dong Silver and Girth Vadar

Eight in ten British blokes admit having a cheeky nickname for their manhood – with “Long Dong Silver” and “Girth Vader” popular pet names.

It comes as a new campaign launched by Sir Stephen Fry urges fellas to regularly check their undercarriage for any changes – after research found just one in ten UK men had heard of penile cancer or could recognise its symptoms.

The QI and former Blackadder funnyman, 68, who is ambassador for the Urology Foundation, said: “From ‘Girth Vader’ to ‘John Thomas’ and ‘My Little Friend’, the list of nicknames men have for their penis goes on.

“Yet while around 80% of men have a nickname, only 10% have heard of penile cancer and its symptoms.

“Know what’s normal for you, check regularly and if you spot something, speak to your doctor. Name it. Tackle it today.”

A hilarious video featuring Sir Stephen has been released for the #NameIt campaign aimed at getting men to talk more about openly about any changes to their manhood.

Penile cancer is rare but rising, with more than 760 men diagnosed in the UK each year. Most cases are seen in men aged over 50, but an increasing number of younger blokes are now being diagnosed.

The foundation said it was vital that fellas with any worries about their member sought help quickly as delays could have serious consequences.

Rebecca Porta, chief exec at the foundation, which quizzed 2,000 UK men aged 18-plus, said: “Our survey highlights that many men can name and talk humorously about their penis, but far fewer know about penile cancer.

“Penile cancer is rare, but an early diagnosis can significantly improve patient outcomes. Knowing what’s normal for you and acting on changes quickly can make a huge difference.”

She added: “We needed a bold, creative campaign that cuts through taboo and meets men where they already are – using humour and familiarity to start a conversation about something very serious.”
