Michael Carrick has benched Benjamin Sesko for Manchester United’s clash against Aston Villa, bringing Amad into the starting XI as he looks to get the team balance right after the Newcastle defeat
Michael Carrick has altered his Manchester United frontline to take on Aston Villa as he seeks to achieve the “balance” of his squad. Benjamin Sesko has been listed among the substitutes this afternoon, with Amad earning a place in the starting XI.
United have had 13 days to gear up for Aston Villa, and Carrick has responded to the Newcastle loss by making two alterations, introducing Amad and Diogo Dalot into the line-up in place of Noussair Mazraoui and Sesko.
When questioned about his choice to start Amad and drop Sesko to the bench, Carrick said: “We’ve got a good forward line to choose from. It is getting that balance right from game to game. Over the eight games, we have had a good impact in different ways coming off the bench.”

Discussing the match, Carrick added: “Great for us to have a game like this with so much to play for. They’re a tough team with a good coach – it has the makings of a really good game,” reports the Manchester Evening News.
“There is a bit more time to prepare – the rhythm is slightly affected in some ways, but we have not made anything of it. It is what it is. I think you approach it with lots of positivity. We’re playing at home.
“It is a big game, it is important, and we’re on a decent run of form. A bit of a setback, but it happens in football. It is not the end of the world.”
United sit third in the Premier League and could extend their advantage to six points over fifth-placed Chelsea with victory against Villa. Chelsea dropped crucial points in the battle for Champions League qualification following their weekend defeat to Newcastle.
The Premier League is anticipated to secure a fifth Champions League qualification berth once more this campaign.
Carrick endured his maiden loss since taking interim charge against Newcastle at St. James’ Park. United were beaten 2-1 by 10-man Newcastle courtesy of an 89th-minute strike from Will Osula.
