Michael Carrick’s Manchester United are heading for the Champions League

Manchester United beat Aston Villa 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as Michael Carrick continues to breathe new life into the fallen giants.

After replacing the hapless Ruben Amorim who oversaw the club’s worst season in more than 50 years last campaign, the former United midfielder has now masterminded seven victories from nine matches, with United rising to third in the table and Champions League qualification appearing increasingly likely.

United triumphed 3-1 courtesy of goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. A journey to Bournemouth is their next challenge. Here’s all the latest developments from Old Trafford including an exciting transfer report.

Man Utd discover Real Madrid star’s price

A highly-rated midfielder in Europe could be looking for a way out and may be the perfect signing for United, reports the Mirror.

Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga is a player the Spanish titans are said to be open to receiving offers for. According to Marca, Los Blancos have set a £43m asking price for Camavinga.

The Frenchman has been at the Bernabeu since 2021, following his transfer from Rennes.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder could be the ideal Casemiro replacement, when the veteran Brazilian leaves Old Trafford when his contract expires in the summer.

However, he has recently found playing time hard to come by and it’s been hinted that he could soon be shown the exit door. As per a report from journalist Matteo Moretto, speaking during an appearance on Radio MARCA: “Camavinga at Real Madrid, he could leave if a good offer comes in.”

A number of Premier League clubs have reportedly expressed interest and United were initially associated with Camavinga, before his move to Spain nearly five years ago.

The 6ft 1in star, who can also play at left-back, has won it all at Madrid, including two Champions Leagues.

Scott McTominay shines on comeback

Former United midfielder Scott McTominay had been out of action since February with tendon inflammation and missed approximately a month with Napoli’s medical team adopting a careful strategy.

But with his team trailing by a goal against Leece, manager Antonio Conte chose to reintroduce the 29-year-old at the break and his gamble proved successful.

The midfielder quickly steadied the ship in midfield and just minutes after his introduction, Napoli equalised through United loanee Rasmus Hojlund.

Then, in the 68th minute, their comeback was completed by Matteo Politano. McTominay ended the 2-1 victory with a 90% pass completion rate, reminding United of the influential player they let go for a mere £26million.

Conte commented post-match: “McTominay had been out for a month. I had to take on some responsibilities, and so did they. The common good, I repeat, is Napoli and we must secure qualification for the Champions League, which is too important. It is important for the top clubs, let alone for us.”

McTominay has been linked with a return to Old Trafford, but if he makes the move the club would likely have to pay more than they received when he departed.
