The Daily Star’s Chief Tipster Jason Heavey reckons Jamie Snowden’s novice can rise to a new level at Hereford on Wednesday
SAM TWISTON-DAVIES can take SILVER HILL (3.30, nap) to a higher level in the Spa Motors Hereford Novices’ Hurdle on Wednesday.
The son of Shirocco, trained by Jamie Snowden, won a novice hurdle at Catterick in November and was beaten just a neck over the same course and different next time out.
In early March, the six-year-old returned at Newcastle for a slight step up in trip, where again he was narrowly second with the winner half a length ahead of him.
On both occasions, the third-placed horse was 20-odd lengths back, however, so both runs were encouraging and bode well for him today.
Half-an-hour earlier at the West Country track, Henry Daly’s AFTER MANY DAYS (3.00, trb) looks long overdue a win and can add one to her record in the Enjoy Coneleys Fun Fair This March Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.
The chestnut started the season with some creditable efforts, getting closer to the action than she ever has in prior seasons, yet without getting her head in front.
Two runs this year have brought about two second places, both solid efforts in which she was not beaten far, and she has not overly punished by the handicapper as a result.
On the all-weather at Kempton, there is an early opportunity for MOONSHINE (4.55, nb) to get off the mark in the Virgin Bet/EBF Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes.
The Starman filly, in the care of Ed Walker, acquitted herself well last season when placed in two maidens, and made a promising all-weather debut when beaten only a head in a Lingfield novice in late February.
She has a smart pedigree as she is out of a multiple Italian Group winner called City Glam and a wide draw was probably partially responsible for her defeat last time out.
At Huntingdon, CARLTON (4.15) looks unopposable in the Weatherbys Epassport Handicap Hurdle.
The son of Frankel is a prolific dual-purpose performer who was fit from the Flat when he ran out a convincing winner over further here seven days ago.
James Owen’s charge promises to take some stopping under a penalty on that evidence.
