Iran’s new Supreme Leader “cheated death” by stepping out for a stroll just moments before a devastating missile strike wiped out his father and wife, according to leaked audio.

Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, reportedly “had to go out to the yard” to attend to a task seconds before the Ayatollah’s Tehran headquarters was flattened on February 28.

The chilling details of the final moments of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his top brass were revealed in a private recording obtained by The Telegraph.

During a meeting on March 12, a high-ranking Iranian aide described it as “God’s will” that Mojtaba was outside when the joint US-Israeli operation, dubbed Epic Fury, turned the compound to rubble.

Mazaher Hosseini, the head of protocol for the leader’s office, said: “Mojtaba was outside and sustained only a minor injury to his leg.”

However, conflicting reports suggest the new leader’s brush with death was far more grizzly after it was claimed that the son of the assassinated Ayatollah actually lost a leg.

Hosseini confirmed that Mojtaba’s wife was “martyred instantly” in the blast. The leaked audio paints a gruesome picture of the carnage left behind by the precision strike.

Iran’s military chief, Mohammad Shiraz, was reportedly “blown to pieces – they could find nothing from him, and at the end they found a few kilos of flesh and identified it as his body.”

The protocol chief revealed that at least three missiles slammed into the compound with terrifying force.

Hosseini said: “The missile was so powerful that it went downstairs where Mr Misbah [Ali Khamenei’s brother-in-law] was… the missiles hit in a way that his head was cut in half.”

While Mojtaba was maimed, Khamenei’s eldest son and his wife reportedly managed to escape the inferno “unharmed.”

The assassination was the result of a massive intelligence web spun by the CIA and Israeli spies, who spent months tracking the dictator’s every move.

While the tyrant expected a strike under the cover of night, Western intelligence pounced when they learned of a high-level Saturday morning meeting in the heart of Tehran.

The IDF successfully used the daylight raid to catch the regime off guard. The elder Ayatollah’s reign ended in the dirt, with his body later pulled from a “pile of rubble.”
