Rachel Reeves today claimed that a ‘deeper relationship’ with Europe is one of the UK’s biggest economic opportunities.
The Chancellor ranks closer ties with Brussels alongside artificial intelligence and regional growth as the three best ways to boost the economy over the next decade.
She said at a speech in London that greater access to the single market would protect Britain from global shocks such as the war in the Middle East, and called for more alignment with EU rules – despite the bloc being beset by its own economic woes.
It comes after Ms Reeves revealed in an interview that she preferred European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen to Donald Trump, saying: ‘I believe that our future is closely intertwined with that of Europe.’
Now it’s time to have your say in the Daily Mail’s latest poll – do you agree with the Chancellor?
In yesterday’s poll, Mail readers were asked: ‘Should King Charles go ahead with his planned US state visit next month if Iran war is still raging?‘ Out of more than 6,000 votes, 64 per cent of you said ‘no’ and 36 per cent said ‘yes’.
